Status Yellow - Rainfall Warning Issued for Cork
⚠️ Heavy blustery rain Tuesday 6pm to Wednesday 3am.

Heavy spells of blustery rain are set to hit Cork and four other counties from tomorrow evening, with Met Éireann warning of difficult travelling conditions and possible localised flooding.
Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow rain warning today at 13:20 for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, and Galway. The warning is valid from 18:00 tomorrow (Tuesday 16 September) until 03:00 on Wednesday 17 September.
Met Éireann forecasters are warning residents to expect heavy spells of blustery rain throughout the nine-hour period. The combination of persistent rainfall and strong winds could create challenging conditions across the affected counties, particularly during Tuesday evening's rush hour when the warning period begins.
The expected impacts include difficult travelling conditions on major routes, poor visibility for drivers, and the possibility of localised flooding in vulnerable areas. Cork's flood-prone locations, including parts of the city centre and low-lying areas across the county, may be particularly at risk during the heaviest downpours.
Tuesday evening commuters should allow extra time for journeys and exercise caution on the roads. The timing of the warning period, coinciding with peak travel times, means motorists on busy routes like the N40, M8, and N25 should be prepared for slower traffic and reduced visibility.
The warning affects counties across Munster and Connacht, with Clare, Cork, Kerry, and Limerick representing four of Munster's six counties, alongside Galway in the west. This spread suggests a significant weather system approaching from the Atlantic.
Cork Safety Alerts will continue monitoring conditions throughout the warning period and will provide real-time updates on any incidents, flooding, or travel disruptions as they develop. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during the heaviest rainfall and to report any road safety concerns.
Wednesday morning's commute may also see lingering effects from overnight rainfall, with surface water and debris possible on roads across the county.
