25 Convicted Sex Offenders Deported from Ireland Under Garda Operation

An Garda Síochána has removed 25 non-Irish nationals convicted of sexual crimes from the State following a targeted enforcement operation carried out throughout 2025.

Operation Moonridge, led by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB), identified and located convicted sex offenders for consideration for EU Removal Orders or deportation.

The operation resulted in the removal of 14 non-EU nationals and 11 EU nationals from Ireland. All 25 individuals are now subject to exclusion periods preventing their return to the State.

The enforcement action involved extensive information sharing between GNIB and multiple agencies, including the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, the Garda Sex Offenders Management Intelligence Unit (SOMIU), and the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.

An Garda Síochána continues to work closely with the Department of Justice in implementing immigration policy.

In 2024, the Department of Justice assumed responsibility for immigration registration administrative functions from An Garda Síochána. This transfer, aligned with recommendations from the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland, freed approximately 100 existing Garda immigration officers from administrative duties to concentrate on investigative and enforcement work.
