147 New City Centre Homes Planned for Cork as LDA Lodges Anglesea Terrace Application

The Land Development Agency has today submitted planning permission for 147 affordable apartments at Anglesea Terrace in Cork city centre, marking another significant step in the agency's ongoing housing delivery across the county.

The development, being delivered in partnership with Cork City Council, will provide 72 one-bedroom and 75 two-bedroom apartments in a mix of cost rental and social housing at the junction of Old Station Road and South Link Road.

The building will range from four to 16 storeys at its tallest point, designed to complement the nearby Elysian tower that has become a familiar landmark on Cork's skyline. The site sits within easy walking distance of Kent Station, Cork Bus Station, and all city centre amenities.

Plans include a landscaped courtyard for residents and 242 square metres of commercial space on the ground floor, which can be divided into two or three separate units. The tenure split will see 90 per cent of the homes (132 apartments) designated as cost rental, with the remaining 10 per cent (15 homes) for social housing.

Subject to planning approval, construction could commence in 2027, with the first residents moving in by 2030.

John Coleman, Chief Executive of the Land Development Agency, said:

"We are delighted to be partnering with Cork City Council to deliver much needed affordable housing in the heart of Cork City. Anglesea Terrace is a fantastic site with great potential. Our vision is to turn this underutilised brownfield site into high quality affordable housing that can act as a catalyst for rejuvenation in the local community and create positive societal impact for Cork City."

Valerie O'Sullivan, Chief Executive of Cork City Council, said:

"We are excited to see the Anglesea Terrace project move to a new phase in its development. This demonstrates the welcome and growing demand for city living in Cork, which, along with City revitalisation is a key objective of the Council. This project has the capacity to create a desirable, vibrant and well-connected neighbourhood for the people of Cork."

The Anglesea Terrace development forms part of the LDA's substantial Cork portfolio. The agency is preparing to deliver the first of 267 homes at the former St. Kevin's Hospital site in Shanakiel early next year and received planning permission for 345 homes at a former ESB site in Wilton in August 2025.

In the Cork Docklands, the LDA is developing 302 apartments at Horgan's Quay in partnership with HQ Developments Residential Company Ltd and a further 337 apartments with Glenveagh Properties at Marina Depot.

The agency's direct delivery and homebuilder partnership channels currently have a pipeline exceeding 25,000 homes nationwide.
